I currently live in the suburbs, so I chose to look at the area surrounding where I intern at the American Cancer Society, 225 N. Michigan Ave, also know as the Michigan Plaza.

When I am heading downtown to my internship I typically notice the stores that open along Michigan Ave and the activities on the streets for tourists, but not the items I found on Everyblock-Michigan Ave.

The first thing I noticed was the four to five pages of events in Millennium Park and other places, as this area is a tourist’s magnet. But, what I didn’t expect to find was the seven credit card fraud and thefts reports filed on Oct. 12th (just one day in one area).

The Michigan plaza, shares the same building with Fox News and the Alzheimer’s Association, and the bottom floor has over 20 restaurants to choose from (trust me it’s like a mall and I get lost every time). So I can see how the fraud would be an issue.

Another surprising news fact was the prostitution that was reported on Ontario Ave on Oct.11th, this is not something I would expect especially near Chicago’s magnificent mile and Millennium Park.

Or the five-star Capital Grille of Chicago restaurant that boosts itself as one of the most extravagant and expensive restaurants in the city, barley passed inspection “with conditions” in May.

But the most interesting story, came from the “latest news” section of the website and linked to a Chicago Tribune article on David Burke’s Primehouse, ritzy steak restaurant selling 40-day old hamburgers to customers for $5, originally priced at $15. You have to read it to believe it- um…Yum!?
